Altap Salamander is a fast and easy-to-use high-quality file manager for Windows with a long history. It offers browsers for advanced file formats, support for popular archives such as 7-Zip, and built-in clients for FTP and SFTP servers. Salamander supports basic file management operations such as renaming, viewing, editing, copying, moving, deleting, creating files and directories, compressing and extracting archives, or sending files by email. Operations take place in the background with the ability to queue, pause, and resume them.
In addition to basic operations, there are commands for comparing directories, changing uppercase and lowercase letters in names, changing attributes, time, or converting encoding and line breaks. Calculate file space, display the size of directories in a panel, or view detailed disk information. Easily run external commands using the user menu or Command Prompt window. Create a list of selected files and directories or use a list of previously opened files and directories.
Altap Salamander can be set to delete the history of visited directories or the list of viewed or running files. With support for the Windows Encrypting File System (EFS), you can encrypt and decrypt files at the NTFS level, preserving the Encrypted attribute, owners, and rights when copying files and directories. With Password Manager, you can securely store passwords for FTP and WinSCP bookmarks, so no software on your computer can read them unless you enter the master password. Password Manager uses 256-bit AES encryption, the current security standard. Using the Encryption and Decryption plug-in, you can encrypt selected files using 256-bit AES, 448-bit Blowfish, or 192-bit TripleDES. The plug-in also supports shredding files using Gutmann or DOD 5220.22-M methods or cleaning up free disk space.
You can use the Recover Files and Directories plug-in to recover deleted files and directories on NTFS and FAT disks. Recovery of NTFS compressed and encrypted files is supported. You can work with physical disks (hard disks, flash disks) or with disk images created by cloning. With the Automation plug-in, you can perform common tasks using scripts written in any language supported by Windows Script Host. Windows supports JScript and VBScript by default. Support for other languages can be installed: Perl, PHP, Python, Ruby and more. Altap Salamander offers groups of useful functions for working with panel content, displaying forms, or working with paths on file systems.
